Morocco Visa and Entry Requirements for Tourists

Atlas valleys tours through Ourika Amizmiz and Aït Bougmez the Valley of Happiness

Entry requirements for Morocco are more straightforward than many travellers expect, though the details depend on nationality and a brief check before booking is always worthwhile. Citizens of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and most of the European Union do not need a visa for short tourist stays, with entry granted on arrival after passport and customs checks.

Who Needs a Visa

Most Western passport holders can enter Morocco visa-free for stays of up to 90 days for tourism. Nationals of a smaller number of countries require a visa arranged in advance through a Moroccan embassy or consulate. Because requirements vary by nationality and occasionally by purpose of travel, the safest approach before booking a 5-Day Marrakech to Fes Luxury Desert Tour is to check requirements specific to your passport through official consular sources rather than general travel guides found online.

Passport Validity and Entry Documents

Morocco generally expects passports to remain valid for the duration of the stay, and many airlines and border posts prefer at least six months of remaining validity as a practical buffer. A return or onward ticket and proof of accommodation are sometimes requested at the border, so keeping a copy of your Contact Us confirmation or hotel booking accessible on arrival is a sensible precaution.

Border Crossings and Arrival Procedure

Most international visitors arrive through Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, Marrakech Menara, Tangier Ibn Battouta, or Fes-Saïss airports. Land crossings are available from the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, and ferry crossings run between southern Spain and Tangier. Arrival processing follows a standard format: passport control, a brief customs declaration if carrying restricted items, and baggage collection. Processing times vary by airport and time of day, with peak season afternoons occasionally seeing longer queues at Marrakech and Casablanca.

Currency and Customs Declarations

The Moroccan dirham is not freely convertible outside the country, so most travellers exchange or withdraw currency on arrival. Foreign currency above a certain threshold must be declared on entry; the limit is reviewed periodically and best confirmed through official guidance before travel. Drones require a permit and are subject to restrictions in certain areas, a detail worth checking if photography is a priority on a FAQ.

Practical Tips Before You Travel

Photograph or photocopy your passport’s main page and keep a digital copy stored separately from the physical document. Many travel insurance policies require evidence of a Morocco-specific itinerary, so retaining a copy of your Luxury Tours booking is useful for both border and insurance purposes. Check entry requirements close to your departure date rather than months in advance, as policy reviews do occur and the most current information always comes from official consular sources.

Good srv We’re really glad we chose this tour. At first we planned just 3–4 days, but we changed to a 10-day trip starting from Casablanca, and it was absolutely worth it. We visited Casablanca, Rabat, the Blue City, and Fes, which we really enjoyed. One of the highlights was staying in a luxury desert camp right in the middle of the sand dunes, which was an amazing and unforgettable experience. On the way to Marrakech, we relaxed in a very authentic kasbah (Kasbah de Mimi), and then continued to Marrakech where we stayed in a beautiful riad. Everything was very well organized, we had great local guides, and our driver Said was excellent, very kind, always helpful, and spoke very good English. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that we will always remember.

Unforgettable Experience With Moha and Halid Moha and Halid are more than just guides. They are people with big hearts who put true passion into their work, and they love sharing the beauty of this country and its culture with those who come to visit. I had a wonderful experience, with them I never felt alone for a single moment. We left from Marrakech with a short stop to admire the breathtaking landscape of Tizi n’Tichka, the most famous road leading to Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou, one of the desert’s UNESCO wonders. The next day, after passing through the Todra Gorges and stopping in the river valley, we continued our journey to Merzouga… sandboarding, dinner, and music under a sky full of stars, before heading back to Marrakech at sunrise. This trip gives you the chance to truly connect with the local culture and explore incredible landscapes, all while being guided by two amazing people with whom I laughed and talked so much. Without them, the experience wouldn’t have been the same . absolutely unforgettable! I highly recommend choosing them for your next trip with their professionalism, kindness, and great sense of humor, they’ll make your journey even more special! Thank you so much, and see you next time, my friends ❤️

My exciting trip with Moha I had a fantastic trip with our guide Moha. He was always extremely supportive, knowledgeable, and very funny, which made the whole journey so much more enjoyable. The accommodation and meals throughout the tour were also great — much better than we expected. If I had to mention one thing that could be improved: on the second day, the local guide at the oasis (I forgot his name) didn’t speak very good English, and we spent too much time in the carpet shop, which made the schedule a bit rushed afterwards. I would have loved to spend more time in the valley. Overall, still an amazing experience — highly recommended!

Amazi(gh)ng We had the most amazing experience with our group in the Merzouga desert, and during the trip to go there from marrakech. Our guide Moha was the best we could wish for, framing the dynamics of the group (what a difficult task with so many nationalities and personalities !), leading us to amazing and specifically chosen places and guides for visits, being flexible yet righteous towards everyone. The trip is well organised, stunning, we meet beautiful people, do amazing (and Amazighs ! lol) things, learn a lot, in all possible ways 🩵 thank you so much to Moha and to the group (and to Benef the monkey-sloth) for this adventure, keep going, life is beautiful✨ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
